Physical education is an essential part of healthy living for all age groups. It enhances physical activity which is as important as intellectual activity provided by academics.

The role of a Sports teacher involves working with parents and other educators towards promoting robust sporting habits in students. Beyond knowledge and expertise in sports, s/he is expected to have interpersonal, creativity, leadership and organisational skills.

S/he must:

·         Prepare a syllabus for the year and seek the Principal’s approval of the same.

·           Possess  basic and skills  w.r.t  various activities including but not limited to:

  • Individual and group games – indoor and outdoor
  •  
  • All track and field sports
  •  
  • Marching
  •  
  • Calisthenics
  •  
  • Exercises with hand apparatus (dumbbells, wands etc)
  •  
  • Martial arts
  •  
  • Adventure sports
  •  
  • Life saving  procedures

·         The sports time is to be used for exercises and games. These should be age appropriate.

·         Complete responsibility for Sports Day arrangements.

·         If required, assist the Pre-Primary Section for Sports Day.

·         Build school teams for various games.

·         Coach the children for inter-school tournaments.

·         Organise inter-school games at the school.

·         Help in maintaining discipline.

·         Help develop healthy dietary habits in students and staff.

·         Responsible for preparation and submission of forms for inter school sports, district level sports, national level sports.

·         Ensure optimum utilisation of the sports infrastructure available at school; and also suggest development of new infrastructure whenever required.

·         Ensure maintenance and care of all the sports equipment.

·         Ensure maintenance and care of the playfields.

·         Develop a genuine interest in sports among students and staff.

·         Ensure adequate planning.

·         Ensure inventory management.

·         Maintain health record of students including physical measurements.

 

Qualification

·         A Degree in physical education from a recognized institution.

 

Experience

·         At least 5 years as a PE teacher in a reputed school.

·         Exposre to MS Office, especially to MS Excel

      Student Assessment

 

    o To maintain a regular system of monitoring, assessment, record-keeping and reporting of childrens progress.

 

      Administration

 

      o To prepare appropriate records as required by the School and External agencies

 

      o To participate in staff meetings as required.

 

    o To be part of a whole school team, actively involved in decision-making on the preparation and development of policies and programmes of study, teaching materials, resources, methods of teaching and event arrangements.

 

      External Interface

 

      o To communicate and consult with parents over all aspects of their childrens education academic, social and emotional.

 

      o To liaise with outside agencies when appropriate.

 

    o To meet with parents and appropriate agencies, to contribute positively to the education of the children concerned.

 

      Other

 

      o To continue professional development, maintaining a portfolio of training undertaken.

 

      o To ensure that school policies are reflected in daily practice.

 

      o To support the Principal in promoting the values of the school.

 

      o To promote the welfare of children and to support the school in safeguarding children.

 

      o To promote equality as an integral part of the role and to treat everyone with fairness and dignity.
